Pet Dental Services
As with humans, maintaining proper oral hygiene is an important part of your pet’s overall health. At Falls Road Veterinary Hospital, we recommend that all our patients receive a dental examination each year. Depending on your individual pet’s needs and condition, we offer many dental services.
Our pet dental services include:
- Teeth cleaning
- Ultrasonic scaling
- High-speed polishing
- Fluoride treatment
- Tooth extraction
- Root canals
- Tooth caps
To make sure your pet is healthy enough for dental work, every patient is required to have pre-anesthetic lab work. Our veterinarians review your pet’s medical history, perform a physical examination, and develop an individualized anesthetic protocol. Our anesthetic protocols include drugs for sedation and for pain control during and after the procedure. Giving pain medications to pets before, during, and after a procedure has been shown to speed recovery and decrease the amount of general anesthesia necessary.
Throughout the procedure, we monitor your pet’s blood pressure, ECG, heart rate, blood oxygen saturation, respiration, and temperature. We help your pet maintain core body temperature with heated tables, warm water blankets, and fluids.
During recovery, we continue to monitor all your pet’s vital signs in heated recovery accommodations in full view of staff for easy access. If needed, we administer further pain medications to help ease your pet’s recovery. When you come to pick your pet up later that day, our highly trained staff reviews the procedure, any required at-home medications, and any necessary follow-up appointments.
