Laser Therapy

Offering Relief from Arthritis, Hip Dysplasia, Wounds, & Other Conditions for Dogs & Cats

Pain severely impacts your pet’s quality of life, and pain from chronic conditions such as arthritis, hip dysplasia, and disc disease can be difficult to manage long-term. You want to provide your dog or cat with the most relief from pain with the least amount of intervention or medication possible, but aren’t sure what methods truly work on animals.

At Falls Road Veterinary Hospital, we offer Multiwave Locked System (MLS) light therapy to dogs and cats who can benefit from decreased inflammation and pain and increased healing of damaged tissue. MLS light therapy uses a laser with two wavelengths of light – one fixed and one that pulsates. The lasers stimulate cell growth and regeneration and increase blood circulation.

When used properly, there are few to no side effects for your pet. During MLS laser therapy, light is absorbed into the cells, which stimulates inter-cellular activity in damaged cells. As a result, pain, swelling, and inflammation in the area decrease, circulation increases, and muscles can begin to relax. Your pet experiences a release of endorphins, which are natural painkillers that can almost immediately bring relief to your pet.

MLS light therapy is beneficial in treating a variety of acute and chronic conditions in dogs and cats, including:

  •      Arthritis
  •      Tendonitis
  •      Wounds
  •      Post-surgical swelling
  •      Inflamed ears
  •      Lick granuloma
  •      Hip dysplasia
  •      Disc disease
  •      Lameness
  •      Sinusitis
  •      And more!

MLS laser therapy is a painless treatment, and your pet will likely not feel anything during treatment. He or she may experience a slight warming sensation in the area where the laser is directed. Many animals experience reduction in pain and increased quality of life after just one treatment.

Though each pet is different and each condition is different, most acute conditions see marked improvement after 1 to 3 treatments. Many chronic conditions require longer courses of treatment, usually 6 to 10 treatments delivered at a rate of 2 to 3 treatments per week for 2 to 3 weeks. Following the initial intensive course of treatment, most chronic conditions can be managed with monthly treatments.

MLS laser therapy provides your pet with many overall wellness benefits, including:

  •      Pain relief
  •      Strong anti-inflammatory effect
  •      Stimulation of healing of damaged tissue
  •      Speeds recovery of injuries
  •      Increased metabolic activity
  •      Improved nerve function
  •      And more!

Because we want to make sure your pet is as safe as possible during treatment, we fit each animal with special protective eye goggles.
